This old soft leather bag was intended to hold the stiff, removable collars that men wore in the early 1900’s. This leather collar case could have been used for travel or just convenient storage. Most of the leather is more suede like but I think it started out with a hard finish. The bottom 2 ¼” has a hardboard liner so the collars would have protection and be able to keep their shape. There are 12 brass grommets around the top edge with a double cord laced through. The cord has leather fringed ends. When the ends are pulled it gathers the top of the bag together. The inside has its original fabric lining. This could still be used for storing cloth collars or it might be fun to use it as a woman’s handbag for a little fun & funk.
The bottom measure about 6 5/8” in diameter and the over all height is about 5 ¾”. It is in nice condition but not without flaws. As previously stated, the leather has age wear. The bottom has the slightly hard surface and there are other areas that demonstrate the same finish but for the most part that leather has a soft, brushed suede appearance which also has some stains and discoloration. The cord hand leather fringe are in tact with minimal fraying. The lining ahs some weak spots and a few small holes.
