This ballerina is an old Ginger doll. She is made of plastic with strung arms and legs. Her legs are jointed at the knee and she has a walking mechanism so her head moves from side to side when her legs move back and forth. She has blue sleep eyes with molded lashes. Her lips and faint eyebrows are painted. She appears to have her original, brunette wig with big curls. She’s wearing a cute, strapless, white net tutu that has a silver flower sewn to the front and she’s wearing a pair of white, Mary Jane shoes. I believe she is from the 1950’s. She has no tags or other markings that I could see so I believe she was made by the Cosmopolitan Doll & Toy Corp. of New York, a company that was founded by Kathryn Kay who worked for the Vogue Doll Co. that made the similar Ginny doll.
She measures about 7 5/8” tall and is in nice condition with a working, walking mechanism. Her strung body is tight and she can stand on her own. Her knees bend but are quite tight and I didn’t try to force them very far since the plastic is old and brittle. She has a stain on her torso which I have shown in the photos. Her eyes do not readily open and close, they have to be done manually. Her hair is mussed and you can see some of the wig glue on her forehead. The ballet outfit is cute and generally clean but the elastic is worn and stretched so it doesn’t stay up well.
