This young chap is an old tooth brush holder. Standing with his hands in his pockets and his head cocked as though seemingly disinterested, he reminds me of Jackie Coogan in his role as Charlie Chaplin’s “The Kid”. He even has the billed cap and turtleneck shirt. His short pants are blue lustreware and the base and the part that holds the tooth brush is gold lusterware. It appears that all of the color, except for the luster ware areas is cold painted and not glazed over. This was used to sit on the bathroom counter and could have held one or possibly two small toothbrushes. It is stamped on the bottom; Made in Japan. I believe this is from the 1940’s or 1950’s.
It stands about 4 5/8” tall and the base measures about 2 ¼” by 1 ¾”. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. The luster is good and there is minor wear to the original, painted details. There is a firing flaw on the inside lip as shown in the photos and there is also so glaze irregularity but these are manufacturing flaws and not damage.
