This old peanut butter tin was made for the young at heart with all of nursery rhyme favorites of childhood. It’s a originally contained 12 ounces of Armour’s Veribest Peanut Butter. It’s a pail type tin with a metal bail inserted into the caps on the sides and it has a pry out style lid. The front has the company log and basic information but as you turn the tin you take a journey into storybook land.

There’s Mary on her way to school with her lamb following behind her. There’s a cat playing a fiddle with a cow jumping over the moon where a dog is laughing and a dish is running away with a spoon. Jack is jumping over a candlestick and peering along the seam of the tin is a friendly looking witch (I don’t recognize her fairy tale). A little boy is sitting in a chair eating something large, perhaps he’s Little Jack Horner eating his Christmas pie. Peter Pumpkin eater’s wife is sitting in a pumpkin shell and maybe that’s Peter peering in through the window. Little Bo-Peep is looking for her sheep and Little boy Blue is blowing his horn. Lastly a little girl in a bonnet is meeting up with Goosey Gander. Mother Goose would be proud!

The lid has its own nursery rhyme with Mother Goose giving her children a spread of Veribest peanut butter! There is also a statement that the peanut butter needed to be stirred thoroughly before using. The Armour & Co. general offices were in Chicago and the can was made by the Continental Can Co., also of Chicago.

The empty tin measures about 3” high and 3 ½” in diameter. Overall is in very nice condition with good color and gloss but there is some scratch wear and a little loss of paint, particularly on the top edge of the lid and on the front where the bail has rubbed against it for years.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
