This old cab driver's badge from Portland, Oregon comes with bonus paperwork. The badge would have been worn on the cap or lapel of a taxi driver. It is a stamped, non-metallic metal, perhaps nickel or nickel plated brass. It reads; Portland Taxicab Co. with the number 8 in the center. The letters are embossed and painted black. On the back it has a threaded post with a knurled nut which secures it onto the fabric of a cap or coat. It measures just over 1 ½” in diameter and is in nice condition with minor wear including a little paint loss, primarily to the number “8”.
This also comes with a small pamphlet that is basically in the shape of a car from the late teens or early 1920’s. Standing next to the car is the chauffeur. On the door of the car is the round emblem that reads; Portland Taxicab Co. just like the badge has. Both the front and back are the same. Open it one fold and it has the other side of the car with luggage on the running board and the driver at the wheel. Unfold it one more time and there is a wealth of information from the rates which start at $.30 for the first ½ mile to the Building Directory that has the building name and the street junctions that were apparently regular destinations. This piece of paper advertising measures about 2 ½” by 4 1/8” in the folded card and about 5” by 8 ¼” entirely opened. It is in good condition with light crease and edge wear and minimal soiling.
