This old bride and groom piece may have been a cake topper in the 1920’s. It is made of chalk and the couple are hand painted and dressed in formal wedding attire. The bride's gown is slightly off white and pearlized. It is a sleek and flowing gown with long sleeves and the flowers on the bodice are lavender with yellow and green. She has a small hat with no veil perched on her short blonde hair. The groom is dressed in a black tuxedo with white boutonniere and a small black bow tie. He holds his top hat in his hand and the bride has her arm through his. Their facial features are slightly exaggerated dramatic black eyes and dark red lips. They are standing on an oval base which could have been used on a large wedding cake or perhaps it was just used to decorate the wedding table. On the bottom is a partial paper label. What’s left of it reads; Mfg. By ----- Novelty Mfg. Co. ----- California U.S.A.. I believe this was made by the Coast Novelty Mfg. Co. of Venice, California.
It measures about 7” tall and the base measures about 4 ¼” by 2 1/8”. Overall it is in nice original condition. The thick paint does have a lot of crazing but the piece itself does not seem to be cracked or broken. There is in a spot of paint chipped off the top of her head which can be seen in the photo. The bottom of the base has been scarred and it is my assumption that someone wanted to remove some personal information so they scratched it off.
