This old Q & E ice cream dipper was manufactured by the Erie Specialty Co. of Erie Pennsylvania in the early 1900’s. It appears to be made of nickeled brass with a wood handle. The size 20 (twenty scoops to the quart) is marked on the shaft just below the bowl. The Erie Specialty Company was prolific during the first part of the 1900’s and made a variety of scoops. This particular scoop is not marked with anything other than the size but I have had this scoop marked with the company information.
It is in nice, used original condition with average usage wear. The wiper mechanism works well and the bowl is generally dent free. This has not been polished. The nickel has wear so there are places on the shaft, thumb lever and ferrule where the brass shows through which can be seen in the photos. The handle is in good condition with no splits. Over all it’s a clean ice cream scoop in original, unpolished condition. It measures about 9 ¾” in length and the bowl measures about 2” in diameter.
