This Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus are an old salt and pepper set. He’s dressed in his usual holiday attire and he has a bag of toys over his shoulder. Mrs. Claus appears to be holding one of Santa’s gloves and peering over her glasses, she looks like she’s trying to give Santa a little kiss as he heads off to deliver Christmas packages. It appears the black and red paint are not glazed over like the rest of the color on the shakers. On the bottom they each have a stopper and are stamped with the number 073. They Come in a cardboard box that appears to be original to them. The box is decorated with holly and berries and it has a label on one end that reads; Made in Japan. These were probably from the 1950’s or 1960’s.
Santa measures about 3 ½” high and she measures about 3 ¼” high and they are both in very good condition with minimal wear. Santa’s belt and buckle are a bit crude with a pebbly finish and blotchy paint but it appears that perhaps the firing wasn’t very good and the paint didn’t go on well.
The box measures about 3 7/8” by 4 ¼” by 2 ¼” and is in used condition with tears along the edges and the back hinge and a hole on the top. Along the way someone has written, in felt pen, Mr. & Mrs. Santa across the lid.
