This the lid of this old box looks like it should be hanging on a parlor wall. It is quaint print with a young couple in an elaborately furnished room with a small dog curious about something at the door. There is glass over the print. The decorative frame is hinge to a deep box which has a decorative wood molding as the sides. All of the wood has a dull gold paint. The inside of the box is divided into three sections. The bottom of the inside has an embossed gold paper which is covered with glass. The inside of the lid has an old mirror which is trimmed with a black and gold metallic fabric edging. The bottom of the box is covered with felt. This could have been used to hold jewelry, trinkets or other vanity accessories.
The base measures about 8 7/8” by 10 ½” deep and 2 ½” high and it is in nice condition with light age and use wear. The paint shows minor rub wear and the wood has a few nicks here and there. Neither the glass nor the mirror are cracked or broken but the mirror has some streaks and discoloration where the mirroring is deteriorating. The trim around the mirror edge has a few irregular areas where it may have been repaired. The felt on the bottom is soiled and worn but it too seems to be original. Due to the two pieces of glass and the mirror the box is rather heavy weighing about 3 pounds without the packing materials.
