Originally, this old box probably held a very special souvenir from the Imperial Hotel of Tokyo. It appears to be made of wood, covered with textured paper. It has a latch on the front of the hinged lid. There is a turquoise, ribbed fabric in the bottom of the inside that might have held a pin or possibly a pearl bracelet around the recess of the edge. There is a fabric insert in the lid that reads; K. Uyeda Jeweller - Imperial Hotel, Tokyo.
It measures about 2 3/16” wide by 3” long by 1” high when closed. It is in fair condition with some wear. The paper covering is lifting in places, has a few small tears, some soiling and discoloration. The fabric that held the jewelry has light soiling and a few pin holes.
