This beautiful old dresser box looks like wood with detailed marquetry on the lid but it is actually celluloid. The grain resembles oak and the inlay design is multicolored with a mahogany color, dark brown, pastel colors and gold. The box is hinged at the back and it has a decorative brass clasp on the front. The inside has a pale pink lining with a molded framework underneath it. This probably held a suite of vanity items like maybe a brush & comb and nail care items but today its uses are endless with a little imagination. The bottom is covered with a decorative paper that resembles wall paper. I believe this is probably from the early 1900’s.
It measures about 10 ½” wide by 6” deep by 3” high. The outside is in very nice condition with good gloss and minor wear. There is one back corner edge that has lifted and caused a little discoloration which I have shown in the photos. The brass clasp may have been gold plated originally which has worn off. The fabric has some soiling and fading and a few tears where something under it has protruded. The paper on the bottom is worn along the edges.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
