This old tin was for Lucky Strike cigarettes and it comes with an original Cream of the Crop bridge card featuring the actress June Collyer. On the top of the green and gold hinged lid is the red Lucky Strike Seal and the slogan “It’s Toasted”. It also reads; flat fifties. It’s Toasted and Lucky Strike are also along the edge of the sides. The inside of the lid is a sales pitch about the tobacco from The American Tobacco Co. and a seal with an Indian chief in full headdress. The back has a factory seal from the District of N.C. and a guarantee seal. Most of the tax seal is still on the tin. The tin was made by Tindeco. It measures about 4 7/16” by 5 11/16” by ½” and it is in very good condition with good gloss and minimal wear.
Included with the tin is the Hand No. 47 Cream of the Crop bridge card. The card is one of a series of fifty that were arranged by Milton C.Work and packed in the Lucky Strike Fifties tins. Each card featured a personality of the period. This one has June Collyer who was an actress and who was married to Stuart Erwin. Beneath her photo is the quote “The extra protection for my throat” along with her signature. The card measures about 4 1/8” by 5 ½” and is in very good, unused condition with minimal wear. None of the tabs are bent or removed. This image was in a 1932 magazine ad and I would guess that is right for the date of this piece.
