This lovely ceramic clown is an old music box. The clown is beautifully fashioned in soft pastel colors that remind me of many Lladro pieces. He’s a slender clown with a happy face. His blonde hair flips up slightly from under the hat that looks like a faded Santa Claus hat. His pants and big bow have large polka dots. In one hand he holds what appears to be a clarinet and it looks like he’s resting slightly on a stool mounted on the base. In the base is a wind up music box. When wound by the key on the bottom and activated by the lever in the back, it plays the tune “Send in the Clowns”. There is a foiled paper label with a 1979 copyright by Berman & Anderson, Inc. of New York. It was made in Japan and distributed by the B & A company.
It measures about 11” high and is in very good, working condition with minimal wear and no damage. The three small pads on the bottom are different from the larger pad but I think they might all be original.
