This old stickpin is a miniature piece of art. It is a pretty example of old micro mosaic which is small glass canes are cut into little tiles that are called tesserae to make this miniature art work. The colors are pretty with a white background showing of the flowers. In the center is a large blue flower with a yellow center. It is surrounded by pink roses and green foliage. Some of the little pieces are actually rods of glass that are shaped like tiny flowers. The tiles are set in a mounting with small beads around the exterior. The back is marked 800. I think it was probably made in Italy and is probably from the early part of the 1900’s.
Overall it measures about 1 1/8” long. The decorative portion measures about 3/8” by ¼” with the beads extending slightly further. It is in very good condition and it doesn't appear that any of the tiles are missing. The metal has a slight gold color which may be a gold wash over the silver or just tarnish but I think it looks much nicer with this patina rather than being shiny. It has no clutch on the pin
