Cocktail parties were all the rage in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and there were dozens of novelty cocktail napkins on the market. Often these were slightly off color jokes or other humorous subjects. These old paper napkins are by Hoohah. These napkins have funny line drawn characters with a description. For instance a woman with a lamp shade over her head and the caption “Wife who interrupted her husband’s story one time too often” and an outraged, overly intoxicated man with the caption “Man who is going to tell off his boss if he can make it in to work tomorrow”. There were originally 36 napkins in the box with 12 different designs. This is only a partial box. Only 23 napkins remain with 4 napkins from a different artist and series as an extra. They have a 1963 copyright by Monogram of California and the box has a 1961 copyright.
They measure about 4 7/8” by 4 ¾” in their folded state and are in fairly good condition with a little age discoloration along some of the edges. The box measures about 5 ¼” square and in fair condition with edge wear, spots and stains and a tear on the side where a price tag had probably been.
