This old tin was for “Old Gold” cigarettes. On the top of the colorful, hinged lid is the name, a seal with a stack of old gold coins and the slogan “The Treasure of Them All”. The panel on the front edge of the flat tin has the same slogan and the side panels read; Old Gold 50 Cigarettes. The inside of the lid has the name and slogan and the same graphics of the coins but it also states that the cigarettes were made from the choicest domestic and Turkish tobacco. The back edge has a factory seal from the state of New Jersey. Remnants of the tax seal are on the bottom and the front edge of the lid. These were a product of the P. Lorillard Company and I believe this tin is from the 1930’s - 1940’s.
It measures about 4 ½” by 5 5/8” by 5/8” and is in very good condition with good gloss and minor. There are some flat, dull spots on the lid, partly on the right lower corner where the rest of the tax stamp had originally been. There is minor scratch wear. The gold is weak on the edges of the lid. It is uniformly weak on all four edges so it was probably not manufactured well.
