This very nice, old milk pitcher is in the form of a horned cow. Characteristic of the figural Royal Bayreuth pitchers, this bull figure is nicely detailed with sagging neck skin and intaglio eyes that give him dimension. It is hand painted, mostly in black, with some brown and a little yellow on the horns. It is open at the top and pours out of the open mouth with an angular handle at the back. On the bottom it is marked; MW Co. – Handpainted – Made in Germany. It appears the MW Co. was the Mitchell Woodbury Co. of Boston They were distributors of fine porcelains in the early 1900’s until they closed in 1940. I believe the pitcher is from the 1920’s or 1930’s.
It measures about 4 ¼” high at the horns and about 5” from snout to the back of the handle. It is in very good condition with minimal scratch wear to the paint and no damage.
