This old menu is from the well known, West coast seafood restaurant, Anthony’s Fish Grotto. The small menu with a drawing of a game fish could also be mailed as a souvenir postcard. The inside reminds us of another time and almost makes your mouth water. A whole baby lobster was $1.40, grilled swordfish with salad and fries was $1.00 and the most expensive dinner on the menu was large frog legs with salad, fries and a roll for $1.65. Western beer was 20c and Eastern beer was 30c! The address on the menu, 965 W Harbor Dr., indicates that his was from Anthony’s first restaurant which opened in 1946 and by the postage requirement of 1 ½ cents, I would imagine this menu is from the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. This is a wonderful souvenir of the restaurant as well as being an artful menu.
It measures about 3 5/8” by 5 3/8” in its closed state and about 7 ½” at the widest when open. It is in very nice condition with light crease wear and minimal soiling.
