This is a very pretty old cameo from the early 1900's. It is carved from a single piece of nacre or mother of pearl and it has beautiful detail. The woman is shown in profile and she has attractive features. The curls of her hair are swept up and back and it appears there is a ribbon holding the style There is just a slight suggestion of clothing which looks a little Romanesque. The nacre has beautiful iridescence with pink and green highlights. The shell is set in a gold colored bezel with a simple detail around the back edge. On the back is a locking clasp pin. Although I think it is gold with no signs of base metal showing through, it is not mark so it is being sold as gold filled. This would make a lovely accent piece on a sweater or even on a wedding dress for that “something old”.
It measures about 1 3/8” long by 1 1/16” wide and it is in very nice condition with minimal wear. The shell has no cracks or other damage. The mounting is very clean with no discoloration and the pin clasp works properly. It is a very nicely made piece of vintage jewelry.
