This colorful, old tin for Breakfast Cocoa was a sample offered by Reid Murdoch & Company of Illinois under the Monarch brand. The four sides are basically the same with the lion logo trademark in the center of each panel. The difference of the sides is the company location at the bottom; Los Angeles, New York, Boston & Pittsburgh. Colorful columns are on the four corners. Across the top of the slip on lid it says; Free Sample. I would guess this empty tin to be from the 1920's or 1930's.
It measures 1 3/4" square and 3" tall and is in very nice condition with good gloss, minor wear and light scratches. The raised edge below the lid and the edge of the lid were gold. These areas are worn.
