This decorative little spoon is an old souvenir from Towle’s, the maker of Log Cabin syrup. The elaborate handle has a log cabin at the top with the words “Towle’s Log Cabin” on the roof. Apparently the cabin trademark was due to Patrick Towle’s admiration of Abraham Lincoln and the shank of the handle is reference to a maple tree from which the sap comes. This was probably a “product premium” which may have come with a purchase or sent for with proof of purchase. It is smaller than a teaspoon but slightly larger than most demitasse spoons. It is not marked sterling so it being assumed that it is silver plate. I believe it is from the early part of the 1900’s.
It measures about 4 3/8” long and is in very good condition with minimal wear or discoloration.
