One side of this pottery snail has a ridge and daubed design to simulate the snail’s shell. The back side however is colorfully decorated with a black bird and a variety of plants. The head is bright turquoise with small decorations. The bottom is partially glazed. On the back, just above the tail it is marked; Mexico 374 3. Above that it appears to be the initials CAT or GAT which is probably an indication of the artist. It is decorated in the fashion that Tonala pieces are recognized for.
It measures about 7 3/8” long by 3 ¾” high and 3 3/8” through the middle. It is in nice condition but there are some glaze chips. These “bruises“ are identified in the last photo with a small red arrow.
