This is a nice old table top mirror perfect for makeup application or shaving. The round mirror has a wide bevel and it is mounted in a nickel over brass frame with a small decorative edge. The back on the mirror is either a coated paper or some type of plastic with a high gloss finish. The decorative edge on that side is different than the front. The mirror is held into a bracket with knurled nuts to easily adjust the tilt of the mirror. The base is made of nickel plated brass over a cast iron base for stability. The shaft and bracket for the mirror also appear to be nickel over brass. There is a thumb screw on the shaft to raise the height of the mirror. I believe this is from the late 1800’s or early 1900’s.
The mirror frame measures about 8 3/8” in diameter. The mirror itself measures about 7 ½” and the bevel is about 3/8” wide. It measures about 9 5/8” across at the knurled nuts. It measures about 16 ¼” high in the shortest position and about 20 ½” in the highest locking position. The base measures about 4 1/8” in diameter.
Overall it is in good original condition. The beveled mirror has no chips or cracks and very minimal background discoloration or foxing. The nickel is in fairly good condition except for the base portion where it is basically down to the brass. The back side of the mirror is generally in good condition also with some minor staining. The brackets on the sides of the mirror seem a little crude but I can’t determine if it was in the manufacturing or a very early solder job to strengthen the connection but it is being sold as is.
