This little apparatus is an old tool for sharpening safety razor blades. It is called the Five Second Sharpener and was manufactured by Stanford Manufacturing Corp. of Baltimore Maryland. The clip in the front allows it to open. A safety razor blade would be placed over the two posts positioned in the center and then the hinged lid would be clipped closed. Then by moving the lever on the bottom back and forth the blade would move against the two steel plates and be honed. It comes in its original paper covered cardboard box with a paper hinged lid.
The sharpener measures about 2 13/16" by 1 1/4" by 1/4" and is in very nice condition with minimal wear. The box measures about 3” by 1 ½” by 11/16” and is in fair condition. It shows edge wear, creases, soiling and tears. The bottom front edge is also torn.
