This attractive pair of old figurines are wonderfully decorative Flamenco dancers. They are mare of a pottery or earthenware with a deep green glaze. She’s in a typical, dropped waist dress with a layered, ruffled skirt. Her arms are raised over her head showing off a sensual form. He’s wearing the sleek pants and bolero hat and jacket typical of the Spanish flamenco costume. He has his hands on his hips and watches intently as his partner dances. These are stationary figures but you can almost feel their movement. They are not marked with any company information and they have no labels. I have seen this pair attributed to a California pottery but I have not been able to confirm that information.
He measures about 12 ¾” tall and his base measures about 5 3/8” by 4 ¼”. She measures about 12” tall and she measures about 6” by 5” across the bottom. They are both in very nice condition with minimal wear. There is some light age crazing to the glaze. There are a few small chips on the inside edge of his base. The outer edge of two of her ruffles have some roughness and it appears the glaze didn’t fully cover the clay. This appears to be a manufacturing flaw rather than damage and is being noted and sold as is.
Priced and sold as the pair.
