This decorative metal box is an old Djer-Kiss compact from the 1920’s. On the lid is a design that is called “Kissing Fairies”. The svelte characters are amid delicate, almost whimsical flowers. The outer edge of the lid has a ribbed design. On the front edge of the vanity case is the Djer-Kiss name. Inside there is a hinged, double sided mirror on the lid side and a powder compartment with a removable metal screen on the bottom side. The bottom piece is marked Poudre - Djer-Kiss - Kerkoff. Behind the mirror is a rouge disk and a powder puff and an additional metal clip although I am not sure of its purpose although I think the rouge disk may have been attached to it. That piece is stamped with a 1917 patent date. The back of the compact has a stippled and ridged edge design. The metal would appear to be brass with a silver or nickel plating.
It measures about 2” square by slightly more than ½” thick and it is in very nice condition with minimal wear and no damage. The latch works well in opening and closing. The mirrors are clean and undamaged. The rouge and puff have been used but are in generally good condition. The plating is good with minimal brass showing through.
