This is an old combination cigarette case and cigarette lighter made by the Ronson Company of Newark, New Jersey. The chrome case is hinged on the left with a latch on the right that releases the catch when it is depressed. Hinged keeper bars hold the cigarettes from falling out when the case is opened. The small upper portion is the reservoir for the lighter fluid which can be filled from inside the case. Most of the components are marked with the Ronson name and the bottom of the lighter portion has a patent that dates the lighter to about 1933 but I believe the Mastercase models were made from the early 1930’s into the mid 1950’s. The front of the case has a high polish panel on either side with thin stripes. The center section has a lightly brushed finish with a shield in the center that has a “G” etched monogram. The back is plain with the lightly brushed finish.
Overall it measures about 2 5/8” wide by 4 3/8” high and 5/8” thick. The inside compartment for the cigarettes measures about 2 3/8” wide by just over 2 7/8”. The case is in nice condition with light wear and faint scratches. The flint wheel seems to rotate when the cap is depressed, beyond that I cannot state that it works as I am not going to put fuel into it. It is being sold as is.
It comes with its original flannel bag and cardboard box which measures about 5 ¼” by 3 7/8”. Both the box and the bag are in fairly good condition with some wear and soiling.
