This old doll, made by the Duchess Doll Corporation, is a depiction of Dolly Madison, socialite and wife of the 4th U.S. President James Madison. She’s made of hard plastic and is dressed in her original costume, a pale pink, lavender and print gown which is adorned with ribbons. She’s wearing a fashionable white felt hat adorned with a feather plume. She also has her original panties and “crinoline” like half slip, both stapled on. She has wavy white hair, bright blue sleep eyes with large painted lashes and a sweet, closed mouth. She is stiff legged with painted shoes but her head and arms are jointed. She comes in her original cardboard box that identifies her as #706 Dolly Madison. The box has its inner liner and cellophane window. I believe she is from the 1950’s or 1960’s.
She measures about 7 ½” tall excluding the hat and is in good condition with minimally mussed hair and crisp, clean clothes. The feather plume is shedding with any breeze and her eyes sometime take a little coaxing to open or close. The box measures about 10 7/8” by 11 7/8” by 2 1/8” and is in fair condition with edge wear and small tears. Two of the corners are torn at the perforations. The cellophane is intact, the inner liner has been torn, and there a few small holes on the bottom of the box where I believe it was tacked to the wall to display her intact.
