This old compact with an attached chain could be worn on the wrist and discreetly clutched in hand of a young lady while she was dancing. The case is a silver metal which could be German silver. The metal is lightly chased and in the center of the lid is a small guilloche button which is a pale bluish green with two pink flowers and a circle of greenery. Inside there are two compartments that contained either cheek and lip rouge or face powder. Both compartments have retainer rings but they are empty. Behind them is an open compartment that could have been used for some other personal item or perhaps a few dollar bills. Inside the hinged lid is a mirror. A delicate chain is attached to the top of the case. The chain has a series of small round links separating elongated links. I have found no maker’s marks on this piece.
It measures about 2 7/8” wide by 1 ¾” by 11/16” thick and it’s about 6 ¼” in total length with the chain extended. Overall it is in fairly nice condition with light wear. There is minor dent and scratch wear on the outside of the case. The mirror has some spotted discoloration but it is not broken.
