Old cast iron trivets were generally rather plain but sometimes they were more decorative and a few were done with comic characters. This one features Bonzo, the English comic character created by George E. Studdy. He was originally drawn for The Sketch and was so popular that the funny looking dog was highly marketed and appeared in advertisements, film and all sorts of printed material. Bonzo's features are pressed into the cast iron and the area around him is cut away.
It measures about 6" in diameter and 3 3/8" high sitting on three tapered legs. It is in very nice condition with no damage.
