This is a very unusual old hanger with an interesting form that is like a piece of artwork. The bent wood dowel is the shoulder bar. One side has a flat section that has an advertisement for City Dye Works of Boise, Idaho that specialized in Cleaning, Pressing & Dyeing. The heavy gauge wire runs under the ends of the wood with a decorative form looping at the bottom. Another wire hooks on and the passes through the dowel to form the hanging hook. I believe the loops at the ends would probably be used to secure dress straps or the like. They can be depressed (see the photos) so you don't have to stretch the garmet. It would make a nice display with vintage clothing. I believe this is from the early 1900’s, it actually looks as though there is a date of 1909 stamped into the wood as shown in the photo.
It measures about 18 7/8” across the widest point of the wire and about 13 ¾” from the top of the hook to the bottom. It is in nice condition with minor wear. The stenciled advertising is worn some from many years of use.
