This colorful old pottery bird was made by the Stangl company as one of the Birds of America series. It has bright colors and a high glaze. This is the blue bird in the rich cobalt blue on a base of green and yellow. On the bottom is stamped with an oval mark that reads; Stangl Pottery Birds. It has an incised number that appears to be 3776 but I believe the reference number is actually 3276.Iin black and what appears to be RM or BM which is probably the artist's initials. Apparently the bird series was done in the early 1940's and was based on John Audubon's Birds of America books but the series was popular and production continued into the 1970’s. I believe this piece is from the 1950’s.
The figure measures about 5 1/8” high at the tail feathers and the base measures roughly 3” by 2 ¾”. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage or repairs.
