This little book “Once on Christmas” was written by Dorothy Thompson an American journalist and radio broadcaster who was considered by some to be the First Lady of American Journalism. The story told is that of a woman remembering and sharing a Christmas when she was only seven. The story is quaint and the illustrations by Lois Lenski are charming. The last lines of the book are quite poignant “I wish you all a Merry Christmas. I wish us all a world as kind as a child can imagine it!”. This has a hardbound cover with the original dust jacket. It has a 1938 copyright by Oxford University Press, Inc. and this is a Third Printing from November 1938. The original price as printed on the dust cover was $.50.
It measures about 4 3/16” by 5 ¼” by 5 /16” thick and is in good condition with minimal wear. The inside pages are generally clean and crisp with minimal edge and corner wear. The spine is tight. The cover shows light edge and corner wear and minor soiling. The dust jacket is soiled, lightly stained and discolored from age. IT also has edge wear and some small tears.
