This old lamp is one like you may have found in many homes in the late 1940's or 1950's, often on top of the T.V. or on a table at the end of the sofa. The base is a ceramic which has a textured, dark gray coating. On the front the form is enhanced with a single, black accent line. The sectioned, silver colored neck has an aluminum socket at the top. The socket has a push style on/off switch. On the bottom of the base are felt pads to keep the rough surface from marring a table top. The white plastic cord is old but may be a replacement.
This lamp comes with what appears to be the original, fiberglass style, cylindrical shade that clamps onto the light bulb. The background is a creamy, off white with black and gold spider-webbing decorations. The top and bottom of the shade are edged with a dull gold, plastic lacing. It has a three-way keyed socket and the original brass finial. It still has some of the rag-cloth on the bottom.
Overall it measures about 16 5/8” high. It measures about 4 ¾” to the highest part of the ceramic and the bottom of the base measures about 7 5/8” wide by 2 ¾” deep. The shade alone measures about 9 5/8” high by 6” in diameter.
It is in good, working condition with light wear. There is some chip wear to the textured paint on the base. The shade has a few light wrinkles that appear to be in the way it was initially wrapped into the round form and the seam doesn’t overlap evenly but this too seems to be a manufacturing flaw. There is some soiling, a few dark smudges and small spots of discoloration on the shade. All in all it’s an attractive decorator piece that has been used but not abused.
