This old tape measure is in the form of a bird and on its wings are the initials AFA. This appears to be a representation of Mach 1, the falcon mascot of the collegiate Air Force Academy Falcons team. The bear has a stuffed plush fabric body with felt beak, wings and feet. He has plastic eyes and yarn tail feathers. The original tag that hangs from his neck reads “I am a tape measure – pull my tail - Patent No. 410598”. As stated, when you pull the tail tab it pulls out a white cloth tape measure. The tape measure has inch increments on both sides and it is marked Japan. There is also a sewn in cloth label that reads; Made in Japan. I believe this is from the late 1950’s.
The bird measures about 5 ¾” high and overall it is in good condition with minimal wear. The bird leans a little to one side and it has become un-stitched at the back of its head as shown in the photos. The plush is clean and minimally worn. The tape pulls out and retracts well.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
