This large old celluloid doll is ready for winter dressed in a beautiful knit outfit. The doll is all celluloid with molded hair and painted mouth and blue eyes. The head, arms and legs are jointed. There are no marks to identify the maker or origin but I am told it is probably Norwegian manufactured at Sanvika Dukkefabrikk in Modum. The three piece outfit appears to be nicely handmade. Apparently the sweater pattern is known as Marius-genser and was designed in connection with the 1952 winter Olympics held in Oslo. It was named after Marius Eriksen, a Norwegian skier who participated in the Olympics and brother of gold medal winner Stein Eriksen, who later had success as a professional skier in the USA. The pattern was sold to Sandnes Garn AS and is still very popular in Norway.
It is quite a large doll measuring about 19" tall and is in very good condition with minimal wear. The area around the neck is light in color which looks like stress and there is a small dent there as well. Email if you'd like more pictures.
