These old hammered copper pieces would be considered an arts and crafts smoking set with the ashtray and an open basket to hold the cigarettes. The cigarette holder is fashioned after an old fire wood holder with a circle of metal partially folded to form the basket. The handle arches over the top and attaches to the edge of the basket then rolls upward slightly to form a little foot and nice detail. The ashtray is square with slightly rounded corners where the cigarette rests are. The center section is a round tapered depression. I have look the pieces over but I don’t seem to find any makers trademark. The set looks like it has a dark patina but it appears to have a finish so it may have been made with the dark color. I believe this is probably from the 1920’s or 1930’s.
The cigarette tray measures about 4” by 3” by 2 ¾” high and is in very nice condition with minimal wear. On the bottom, down the center, there is some discoloration where the protective finish has worn off. The ashtray measures about 4” square and it sits about 3/8” off the table. It is nice condition but it has some shiny spots from cleaning and a few dark areas that might be from cigarettes. The bottom has some of the wear that the cigarette holder has. Over all it is a nice looking set.
