This old sewing machine, with its cheerful flowers, was made in Germany. The little size makes it generally accepted as a child’s sewing machine. The sheet metal is painted black and it is decorated with decals featuring star flowers of yellow, white and orange and green leaves. It has the Casige trademark on the bed plate of an eagle with its wings out spread, holding a key. Below the trade mark it reads; Made in Germany. This toy sewing machine is operated with a cam drive hand wheel and sews a chain stitch. It was made in Germany prior to WWII and was apparently advertised in the 1934 Christmas Montgomery Ward catalog.
It measures about 7 ½” to the top of the tension nut on the spool holder and the base measures about 8” by 4 3/8”. It is in very nice condition with minimal wear. The paint has good gloss and the decals are in fairly good condition with minimal wear. There is some pitting under the paint surface from poor prep work to the paint prior to painting and there is a little paint loss on the feet. The plating on the bed plate and hand crank is good and the rest is pretty good albeit a little weak on the flat bars. It appears to be complete with no missing parts.
