This strange looking dog is an old tooth brush holder. His body is blue lustreware and his head is the gold lusterware. He has a funny yellow muzzle that somehow reminds me of The Simpsons. He has three places for holding toothbrushes. There is one hole in the top of his head and another on his forehead and then there is a hole on each side of his mouth for a tooth brush to go horizontally. The black details and the green near his eyes are cold painted and not glazed over. This style was used to sit on the bathroom counter. It is stamped on the bottom; Gold Castle (with the pagoda logo) Hand Painted - Chikusa - Made in Japan. I believe this is from the 1940’s or 1950’s.
It stands about 4” tall and the base measures about 2 ½” by 2 7/8”. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. The luster is good and there is minor wear to the original, painted details.
