This old scale might have been used in an old hardware or general store. It appears to have a brass plated steel face plate that reads; Not Legal for Use in Trade - Landers Improved Balance No2 New York. The plate is attached to the painted back piece with brass brads. There’s a large steel ring at the top so it could be hung and it has a large hook at the bottom for hanging whatever you might be weighing. The increments along the right side go from 0 to 50.
The face plate measures about 5 7/8” in length by 1 5/8” wide and the overall length from the top of the ring to the bottom of the hook is about 10 3/8”. It is in fairly nice original condition with wear from use. It The brass plating is partially worn off, down to the steel and otherwise discolored. The black paint on the back is scratched and worn. The spring is tight and I would assume that it would give a close to accurate measure.
