This whimsical pony is a product of the California pottery company; Elzac. Apparently the company was in business during the 1940’s ceasing production in 1947. This example, although not a piece of jewelry, has the wonderful combination of hand painted pottery and Lucite. The horse is reddish brown with a light head and feet. Brown splatter blotches also dot his body and all of the painted details are under glaze. The curly mane and tail are a translucent pink, ribbon candy form made of Lucite. An original label is attached to the back and it reads; Gift Art by Elzac - Made in California. The bottom of the feet are unglazed and one foot has a painted number 7. Another foot has what appears to be an original price tag from Ken Slusser Co. with the hand written price of $1.00.
It measures about 5 7/8” tall to the top of the mane by 5 3/8” from front to hind leg and is in very nice condition with minimal wear and no damage.
