This is a very unusual old celluloid novelty for the well groomed man. The elephant is actually the cover for a comb, probably considered a moustache comb. The teeth of the comb slip inside of the body of the celluloid elephant with the feet of the elephant being the handle of the comb. Green rhinestone eyes enhance this unusual piece. It is not marked with a country of origin but I believe it was probably made in Germany in the early 1900's.
Overall it measures about 4" long and 1 1/2" wide. It is in good condition with minimal wear. There is a dark spot on the left side which looks like a cigarette may have scorched it (see photo).
