This old cookie jar is the American Bisque Kitten on Quilted Base which was made in 1959. As with most American Bisque pottery this is a fun jar with the cat on the lid. The base looks tufted and is done in green and brown and depending on the angle you see more of one color than the other. The front of the base has the word Cookies which is written out with a show lace from the shoe at the top edge of the jar. The other lace is turned up and continues onto the lid and under the cat’s paw. The mischievous kitten has a spunky face with side glancing eyes. All of the paint is under glaze. The back of this seldom seen jar is marked U.S.A. and it is documented in several books as being American Bisque.
It measures about 13 ¼” high and the base measures about 5 ¾” square. The jar is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. There is some brown paint, under glaze on the top edge of the jar base which can be seen in the photos. The bottom has light soiling.
