This large pitcher and mug set was made by the Frankoma Potteries of Oklahoma. It is called the Barrel pattern which was first introduced in in the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. I believe this is their Desert Gold glaze, a creamy golden yellow over the lighter Sapulpa clay. In an old 1951 catalog the pitcher and mugs were sold individually. The pitcher, 97D was shown as a 65oz Barrel Pitcher and the mugs, 97M are listed as 16oz Barrel Mugs. I believe the mugs are earlier than the pitcher because of the mark on the bottom. The mugs have the smaller incised Frankoma name and no design number as was typical in the late 1940’s. The pitcher has the larger impressed Frankoma name and the design number 97D which was used in the early 1950’s.
The pitcher measures about 7” high to the top of the spout and it measures about 8 ½” across the handle to the spout and the bottom measures about 5” I diameter. It is in very good condition showing minor scuff wear and no damage. The inside has typical age crazing that does not affect the outside glaze.
The mugs measure about 4 ¼” high. The opening at the top measures about 2 7/8” in diameter and the base measures about 3 ½” in diameter. Three of the four mugs are in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage. One mug has a rim chip which I have shown in the photos.
Priced and sold as the set as shown.
