This old handbag appears to be made of a black grosgrain type fabric which is gathered across the top under the decorative clasp bar. The metal bar is non magnetic, possibly brass, with a gold tone finish. It has a feather or frond design on both ends and the center section has tooled insets with the edges eloquently detailed with white rhinestones. Offset in the cut-out is a single, large rhinestone acting as the snap closure. The cloth handle runs through a brass rings on either end and is stitched onto itself. Inside the purse is a single large compartment which appears to be satin lined with a small sewn in pouch on either side that has gold colored trim. It is marked; Guild Creations and I believe it is from the 1940’s or 1950’s.
It measures about 9 ½” wide at the top, 6 ½” wide at the bottom, 8 ¼” high excluding the handle, 14” high with the handle raised and 1 ½” deep at the bottom. It is in very nice condition with minimal wear and the clasp works properly. The handle is somewhat wrinkled and some of the stitching is loose on the handle ends as shown in the pictures. The inside is clean and odor free.
