This tiny pair of old gloves were made by Fownes of London. They are very small but beautifully made. They have a three pleat detail on the back and fine stitch detailing around the fingers with reinforced stitching around the base of the thumb. The stitching around the palm slit is done in red which is a nice little accent. They are made of fine brown leather with a snap closure at the wrist. The snap has a fist grasping a handle which is probably referencing a leather workers hand. The button is marked; Fownes London. Inside one glove it is also stamped; Fownes London. Inside the other glove it is stamped 0000 which I would assume to be a size. With a size in the glove they were probably made for a tiny child but these would probably go well with a large, German or French, porcelain fashion doll. I believe these are from the late 1800’s to, perhaps, the early 1900’s.
They vary slightly but measure between 4 ¼” - 4 3/8” from the longest finger to the wrist and about 2” wide across the back of the hand, at the knuckles. They are in very good condition with minimal wear. The color on the buttoms has a little wear.
