This is a beautiful example of the early Milton Bradley games. This is an old game of Magnetic Jack Straws #4822. This game is like pick-up-sticks or pick-a-stick but this particular game has the player using a magnetic to pick up the metal “straws” which come in an assortment of shapes. The different shapes have different values which are used to determine a winner. The types of straws listed on the box are; Plain, Bent, Square Mauls, Mallets, Rakes, Picks and Cooper’s Adze. This set comes with 14 straight straws, 6 bent straws and 9 specialty straws consisting of 5 different shapes. It also comes with a magnet. The instructions for playing the game are printed on the inside of the box lid. The box lid and the box insert have the same wonderful graphics with an elf holding a large magnet in the midst of jack straws in color and in silhouette. This was made by the Milton Bradley Company of Springfield Massachusetts and it has a 1920 copyright date.
The box measures about 8 ½” by 4 ½” by 1 3/16” and is in nice condition with good color and some edge and corner wear. Two of the corners do have masking tape. Although the box gives no count for number of pieces, I think there may have been more originally but there are still plenty to have some good fun while testing your skill and dexterity.
