This piece of pottery appears to be an older piece, probably from the Tonala area of Mexico. The small bird is shaped somewhat like a dove or pigeon. It is subtly decorated in muted earth tone glazes with a floral design on the back of the bird and a dotted pattern on the head and wings. It has a thin glaze over a grayish clay. There is a firing hole on the bottom and it does not appear to be marked.
It measures about 4” from beak to tail and about 2 3/8” high. It is in nice condition with minor scuff and scratch wear to the paint and glaze. The paint is worn from the beak and there is a small chip on the lower breast which I have enlarged and pointed out in the photos.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
