This old tin spinning top from the 1950's has several colorful, circus theme images decorating it. There are dressed elephants, a dancing puppy dog, a goose, a couple of pigs and of course several clowns in brightly colored outfits. You can't get much more fun on a single toy. The background of the top is striped to match the bottom half. There is a wooden knob attached to the twisted plunger that is used to pump the top and make it spin. It has the J. Chein & Co. - Made in U.S.A. logo. The inside of the pail is blue and the handle folds down.
It measures about 6 ½” in diameter and about 6 ½” high with the plunger down. It is in good condition with nice gloss, bright colors and it spins nicely. It has light scratch and scuff wear, primarily on the bottom side but there is also one section on the top half that can be seen in the photos…it’s on and around the clown dressed in green. There are also a few dents, mostly at the vent holes toward the center. They seem somewhat union and consistent so I wonder if they were done in the manufacturing but they have been noted nonetheless. .
