This is a beautiful example of a vintage motto poem. The poem is titled "Mother! Home!" and reads; Mother! Home! that blessed refrain, Sounds through every hastening year; All things go, but these remain Held in memory's jewelled chain, Names most precious, names thrice dear, Mother! Home! that blessed refrain. This was written by John Jarvis Holden, a poet who wrote many poems about Mother in the early 1900's. The picture of a stylized cottage is at the bottom of the print surrounded by colorful flowers and plant life. The background is gold making this a very striking wall hanging. The frame has a carved face and is painted gold with a pale lavender over the design which picks up the lavender of the cottage roof and some of the flowers. It appears to have the original if not period paper back. It presently has no hanging device.
It measures about 10 3/4" by 6 11/16" and is in very nice condition with minimal wear. The glass is in tact with no damage. The gold is worn from the lower right hand side of the frame as shown in the pictures. The paper on the back shows wear with the nails poking through in a couple of places, a few small holes and a tear across the top.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
